Spring has come, the sun’s shining and it’s a perfect weekend for cherry blossom viewing as we hit the peak of the blossom season. Kew Gardens and Regent’s Park both have an abundance of blossom at the moment. I did a quick tour of Regents Park a couple of days ago so I can bring you the latest news.
I started in the English Garden which has a variety of cherry trees, some in blossom and some still in bud.
The cherry blossom arch in nearby Avenue Gardens was perfect, the delicate pink blossom in full flower.
The new avenue planted a couple of years ago along Chester Road leading up to Chester Gate was in flower too. The trees are beginning to fill out now and give the whole avenue more presence. The flowers are unusually large and a very pale pink.
In Queen Mary’s Gardens the cherry trees around the edge of the garden and by the lake were also in flower, but the wonderful white blossom that will cover the Jubilee Gates a bit later in the season was still in bud.
The line of white cherries next to the Triton Fountain were in full bloom.
And there’s a lovely pink cherry in flower next to the pedestrian bridge over the south end of the Boating Lake, near to the Baker Street entrance to the Park.
If you don’t catch the blossom at Regent’s Park this weekend, don’t worry – there’ll be more coming into bloom over the next couple of weeks. And Greenwich Park, which flowers late in the season, is still to come as well.
